How should I start jogging?

I'm trying to lose weight and I want to start jogging in the morning. In school I was able to jog for 12 minutes without stopping (12 min run is part of our phys ed fitness training) and I'm pretty sure I can go up to 20 minutes without stopping. Should I start with something slow like the couch to 5k or just go as hard as I can?

Australian Army Reserve - Applying during years 11/12?

I'm expecting a lot of TL;DRs over this, but here goes, and thanks a lot to anyone who's willing to help out. I'm around 16 and 6 months old now (min. age required to begin application process). That said, I'll definitely spend a few months doing some more thinking and fitness training before I apply. 1. Is it realistic to hope that someone of my age (17) will be accepted into the Reserves, assuming I'm up to the physical and mental standard? I've heard about a lot of people around that age being knocked back, but at the same time I hear about people in my position being accepted. I think I can answer my own question here by saying it comes down to how you perform in assessments, your commitment qualities, etc. 2. Let's say I apply for X position when I turn 17 (July 2012). Let's say that I am accepted into that position and enlisted by the same time next year (July 2013). I am in Victoria, so that puts me at the start of year 11 now and going into year 12 next year. As far as parade nights and weekends go, my time management is good and I can always find time to put into studying - I do hope to continue to the end of year 12 and hopefully university. What concerns me is the month at Kapooka, and then IET/Employment training. So let's say I'm enlisted, and I'm a recruit in the reserve, half way through next year. Because the end of year exams are critical, I don't want to miss that month of school when I need to study. Basically, what I'm asking is, If I'm a recruit, am I still able to attend parade nights and weekends before going to Kapooka, and can I hold off doing basic training until they have an intake when it is more suitable for me (i.e. over a school holiday, or after the end of year 12). I'd be more than happy with a placement over a two week holiday (missing two weeks of school total). I don't know much at all about which times in the year basic is run, hence why I ask this question. Besides wanting to join the ARA sometime after uni and in my 20s, down the track (don't bother to tell me about how hard the transfer is - I've heard), my motivation for wanting to apply so early is so if all goes smoothly (which I'm sure it never does- lol) I'll have a placement in the reserve during year 12 so once it's all over I'll be employed in a part time job - more importantly one that sparks my interest - and have something to do and get a bit of money on the side as I study at uni. In short: 1. I've been doing well at school so far and have no problems with leadership and commitment - despite being so young, is it realistic to hope to be able to successfully apply and enlist into the Army Reserve? 2. Is the Army flexible as to how long I hold off on basic training - provided it is within a reasonable time span (say, six months). If it helps answer any of the questions, I'm most interested in Rifleman and Light Cav Scout (I'm aware that these two are some of the hardest to get into due to demand), although IT Systems Tech and Comms Systems Operator also have my interest. Will my age play a factor as to which of those roles I'm more likely suited to? I think I've been comprehensive enough in my description, but if any more info is required, let me know. And please, Australians or people with experience in the Australian Defence Force only - I've seen a lot of answers around here from non-Australians who have absolutely no clue what they're on about.
