Physical Fitness
In the name of today's Super Bowl, I was wondering why the world puts so much into sports. Shouldn't we only be rewarding raw brain power--in other words reward those who really solve our world's important problems.
I take particular offence because I went to high school with inferior students. I was near the top of my class. Some of those inferior students with football, golf, soccer, swimming, etc skills got full ride scholarships to better schools than I did. Then they went on to get better jobs than I did because of their sports fame and school brand. So I guess if you can throw a foot ball well and graduated from USC, and carry a ring from winning a big game on January 1st, you are really qualified to be a senior VP of a fortune 500 company?
I feel if you want to throw a ball around or run or swim, fine, but should we be putting such value on it...when it solves none of life's important issues other than general physical fitness (which I do believe we should promote).
I make the best of big game days. I can at least catch a buzz on a few beers and socialize...but that's all I get out of it...1/2 the time I don't even know who's playing.
I manage some accounts with large companies. A long time ago someone told me to always glance at the paper and become familiar with the big ideas in sports that week. It works...people really value sports...knowing a little and asking people's opinions about it is a great way to make sales or remove obsticals...but why is it so valued and important to people. I'd rather talk about what percentage chance we have of finding Alien life in 20 years.
